12 Years A Slave, Three Cups of Tea & A Long Walk to Water

It's March! We are experiencing beautiful weather here in British Columbia. It's chilly but the sun is out in full bloom. I want to thank all the visitors to Skookum this past month! I've rotated the books and added your donations of 1421 The Year China Discovered America, Three Cups of Tea, and a series of National Geographic. Last year, I was fortunate to win an Amazon gift card and purchased a series of books for Skookum including Solomon Northup's 12 Year's A Slave. I have yet to read the book or see the movie but I hear they are both excellent! Let me know what you think!

Along with my purchase of 12 Years, I also picked up Linda Sue Park's A Long Walk to Water and Lois Lowry's Number the Stars. Both books are Newbery Medalists! "The Newbery Medal was named for eighteenth-century British bookseller John Newbery. It is awarded annually by the Association for Library Service to Children, a division of the American Library Association, to the author of the most distinguished contribution to American literature for children" (www.ala.org). The 2015 winner is featured here. I've also stocked Skookum with Ramona the Brave, Stink-O-Pedia, and Just Me and My Mom. For the wee ones just learning to read, check out Bob Books Collection 1!

In closing, I want to thank those that have contributed comments to Skookum's guest book! I hope you enjoyed your visit Alyssa and Sarah! Skookum is supported by a very generous community of patrons and we thank you for your kind words.

Have an amazing day!

Cheers,

Jacqueline
